All His Benefits (Part 9)

“The patriarchs and the prophets of the Old Testament, and Jesus’s disciples in the New Testament—whenever they had a special encounter or vision their first reaction was to be aware of their sin and to be afraid. There were even times when it said they were ‘sore afraid’…”

All His Benefits (Part 5b: His Ways)

“…He reveals His ways by both the things He says to us and the manner (or mood) in which He says them (He can whisper, shout, speak tenderly, or warn emphatically). He also does this by allowing us to see Him at work…”

I was reading a blog post that touched my heart and reminded me of a post I wrote about a year ago. Below is the link to my post. I hope it blesses you.

A Loving Pursuit: Part 29 (“Ephraim”…Fruitful In Affliction)

Tracking Our Prayers

Scripture reference;

33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?

35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?

36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.” Romans 11:33-36 KJV

And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” Isaiah 65:24KJV

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;” Isaiah 61:1

I love to get new clothes. Like most people, I am on a budget, and have to be careful not to shop too often or buy too much when I do shop. There was a time when I used to like to drive to a city bigger than mine, to my favorite store and shop. Right now that just doesn’t appeal to me. I am so glad that I can go there online and shop. I don’t have to spend over an hour one way on the interstate, or get all hot from trying on clothes in the dressing room. I can just click here, and click there and put them in my “shopping cart”. I can pile them in; everything my heart desires and then narrow my selections down to just a few things before I check out, and not have to feel guilty about the store clerk having to hang them all back up.

When I have concluded my transaction I get a confirmation number and an email thanking me for my purchase. Then a few days later I get another email telling me that my order has been shipped, and letting me know that I can track my order.

Don’t you wish our prayers could be like that? Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just see with our eyes what the Lord might be doing with the situations we bring to Him in prayer? Oh, how I wish I could get overnight shipping! Well, it just doesn’t work that way, but we do have the Lord’s promise that His tender mercies are over all His works, and that he works all things together for good to His children. Isn’t it wonderful to know that whatever He is sending will be something with no defects…something we will cherish!

The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.” Psalm 145:9 KJV

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28KJV

Scripture reference;

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.1Peter 5:6-7 KJV

What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.

I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.” Luke 15:4-7KJV

I have a precious friend who is a woman of faith. She means so much to me. She is facing some huge challenges in her life. In a letter to her I shared some scripture, and a link to a video that is less than two minutes long.  A few moments later I thought that they might be encouraging to others, too. Here they are below.

“Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” Matthew 6:26 KJV
“I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.” John 10:14 KJV
“29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 49:29-31 KJV

“R” Is For Rose

Can you tell that I really love these roses?

When you look at the picture of them in front of the hydrangeas you are seeing two rose shrubs. These pictures were taken in 2010. Since then, one of them died during a hot summer a few years ago when I neglected to water them well. One day (Lord willing) I will replace it.  🙂

Scripture reference;

Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:

11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.” Isaiah 55:6-12 KJV

At this moment I am thinking about restoration. Spring is a time when all of the flowers that were gone in the winter begin to reappear. They serve as reminders that nothing is impossible with our loving God. Sometimes seeds from other places wind up in our yards and sprout pretty plants that give us joy…that comfort us regarding plants that have died.

I had a rose once that was the same color as the ones in the pictures above. It wasn’t a shrub rose, though. It was a climbing rose called “America”. It was on the east side of my house for a few years a long time ago…maybe ten or fifteen years ago. One summer I neglected to water it during the hottest days. It died. The next year I began to see new life way down near the ground. A cane shot up nice and tall. When it bloomed I was surprised to see a deep red rose instead of a coral colored rose. That is because many varieties of roses are grafted onto the root stock of another rose, and if you prune it below the bud union you will get the rose that would bloom from the root stock.

Sometimes we, too, are able to express something so beautiful, but after a period of trauma are nearly dead emotionally with very little hope. Then the Lord slowly and gently revives us, and in time we bloom again in an unexpected way, and to everyone’s delight, the new  bloom is beautiful, too.

This post was submitted as part of the A to Z Challenge, where participants agree to post an article that corresponds to each letter of the alphabet and publish an article every day during the month of April (except Sundays).

Here at Serenaded Softly, my theme for the month is Blossoming Verses, where I’ll share a picture of something in bloom, a passage of scripture, and a poem.
