How Firm a Foundation

Scripture References;

1But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. Isaiah 43:1-3 KJV

How Firm a Foundation

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said,
You, who unto Jesus for refuge have fled?

In every condition, in sickness, in health;
In poverty’s vale, or abounding in wealth;
At home and abroad, on the land, on the sea,
As thy days may demand, shall thy strength ever be.

Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
For I am thy God and will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen and help thee, and cause thee to stand
Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand.

When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
The rivers of woe shall not thee overflow;
For I will be with thee, thy troubles to bless,
And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.

When through fiery trials thy pathways shall lie,
My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply;
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.

Even down to old age all My people shall prove
My sovereign, eternal, unchangeable love;
And when hoary hairs shall their temples adorn,
Like lambs they shall still in My bosom be borne.

The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake.

From His Abundance

Scripture References;

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

6 After this Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. And a large crowd was following him, because they saw the signs that he was doing on the sick. Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples. Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.  Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?” He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.  Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii[a] worth of bread would not be enough for each of them to get a little.” One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?” 10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number. 11 Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted. 12 And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost.” 13 So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten. John 6:1-13 ESV

35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. John 6:35 KJV

1Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,

To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.

For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.Titus 3:1-7 KJV

Not too long ago I wrote a post called “Gathered Fragments” ( https://serenadedinseconds.wordpress.com/2012/06/03/gathered-fragments/). In it I asked my readers to share what the Lord might be speaking to them in the passages of scripture I listed there.  This is my third post that is dedicated to the first three responses that I received. Sis Caddo (http://caddoveil.wordpress.com/)   shared these words:

“I never tire of hearing the story of Jesus feeding that big crowd with just a little boy’s lunch–if He’d never done any other miracles, you’d think that would have proved Who He was! God bless you from His abundance today–love, sis Caddo”

Above are some scriptures I have on my mind tonight as I am typing. The first passage (The feeding of the five thousand) is the one to which sisCaddo referred. Aren’t you glad that the Lord is generous?  We may find ourselves in so many different kinds of situations. Our hearts can become hard and ugly and unfit for anything good, but when we see that and we go the Lord we will find kindness and love in His gaze. His arms will be outstretched and His feet will be swift as He rushes to us, so we will only need to take one step. He will wash us and renew us! He does that when we are born again and He continually does that throughout the lives of believers:

The Parable of the Prodigal Son

11 And he said, “There was a man who had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me.’ And he divided his property between them. 13 Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living. 14 And when he had spent everything, a severe famine arose in that country, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and hired himself out to[b] one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. 16 And he was longing to be fed with the pods that the pigs ate, and no one gave him anything.

17 “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. 19  I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.”’ 20 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’[c] 22 But the father said to his servants,[d] ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. 23 And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. 24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate. Luke 15:11-24 ESV

To Whom Shall We Go?

Scripture references;

25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. Psalm 73:25-26 KJV

65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. John 6:65-69 KJV

In it I asked my readers to share what the Lord might be speaking to them in the passages of scripture I listed there.    This is my second post that is dedicated to the three responses that I received. Debbie Feller  (http://iftodaywehear.wordpress.com/) was the second person to respond:

“What stood out to me was, ‘to whom shall we go?’ I am desperate to just go to Him, to just be with Him, to just be fed by Him.”

What a heart stirring proclamation! It reminds me of these two verses :

”  1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? Psalm 42:1-2

Like King David, Peter and John, Deb understands that there is nobody to go to…… if eternal life is what you are seeking, it is only possible through Christ. He is the way, and He grants eternal life to all who call on Him. Here is something else to consider. If the Lord is able to take care of us for all eternity, that includes not only the past and future, but also the present. There is no issue too large or small to take to the Lord.

“6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7 KJV

“1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.” Psalm 46: 1-3 KJV

Our Provider

Do any of you like lemon pie?  This picture is of my lemon cheese pie. It’s my own recipe.  It’s really nice to be able to make a pie that doesn’t have to be baked when it’s hot outside. I have a few variations of this recipe. This time I melted marshmallows and folded them into the filling to give it a little touch of meringue flavor.   🙂

Not too long ago I wrote a post called “Gathered Fragments” ( https://serenadedinseconds.wordpress.com/2012/06/03/gathered-fragments/). In it I asked my readers to share what the Lord might be speaking to them in the above passages of scripture. Here is what Ann  (http://tonirand.wordpress.com/)   had to say:

“JEHOVAH JIREH – that’s what came to mind. Our God will provide.”

And Here is my reply to her:

” That is a phrase we could repeat four times while emphasizing a different word each time! I feel a blog post coming from that little exercise. ;) ”
JEHOVAH JIREH is one of many names found in the Bible for God. Isn’t it something that He provides for us so well that one of His names bears witness to it?!

Who provides? God. Whose God? Our God. We can claim Him as “our” God? Yes, if we have placed our faith in Him we can! “Will” provide? Yes, yes! Not “might provide”, but “will provide”!

Just pause and take it in. Boy, I needed to do that. I pray that the Lord will help us to remember it.

Moore to Ponder

I am not a poet. This is my first shot at it, so I probably made some mistakes, but here it is:

Scripture References;

6Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:  7Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Isaiah 55:6-7KJV

11For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. 12How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? 13And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you…
